# Overview of Ask Juris

The starting point for working with documents, asking legal questions, conducting research, and accessing Jurisphere's other tools.

Instead of switching between separate Research and Document Review pages, you can start with a question, attach your files, and choose the type of work you want to do from a single workspace.

### What you can do from Ask Juris

Ask Juris brings together the main ways you work with Jurisphere:

* **Research** legal questions and find relevant legal sources.
* **Review documents** and ask questions about their contents.
* **Draft** legal documents and content.
* Use **Deep** analysis for more detailed work.

You can also access shortcuts for tools such as [**Translation**](/translation/translating-a-document-on-jurisphere.md)**,** [**Parallel Review**](/parallel-review/using-the-parallel-review-tool.md)**,** and [**List of Dates**](/list-of-dates/overview-of-the-list-of-dates-tool.md) from the Ask Juris homepage.

#### Verifying Responses

Every response you receive from Ask Juris is verifiable back to its original source. You don't need to take an answer at face value. You can trace it in two ways:

1. **Inline citations:** Every paragraph of a response includes a reference to its original source, shown at the end of the relevant sentence. Hovering over a citation previews the source and clicking it opens the source document directly in the viewer pane on the left of your screen. If the source isn't held within the Jurisphere database, the citation opens the original document in a new browser tab instead.

2. **Sources tab:** Alongside inline citations, every response includes a **Sources** tab, which lists all the sources relied on in that response in one place. This is useful when you want a consolidated view of everything a response drew on, rather than checking citations sentence by sentence.

### Start with a question

Enter your question or instruction in the Ask Juris prompt box. You can write naturally, just as you would give instructions to a colleague and use our [**Prompt Enhancement**](/resources/prompting-guide/prompt-library.md#prompt-enhancement) feature.

For example:

* "Draft an application for interim relief in a civil dispute based on the attached plaint and supporting documents."
* "What are the termination rights available to each party in the commercial lease agreement I have attached?"
* "Identify the key risks in this share purchase agreement (SPA) I have attached."
* "Identify the key risks in this agreement."

You can attach one or more files if your task requires them, even to run a research query.

{% hint style="info" %}
You do not need to decide in advance whether your task is "research" or "document review". Start with your objective and select the appropriate mode if your task requires one.
{% endhint %}

### Attach files when your task requires document context

Select **Attach** <img src="https://3330719282-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2zbn28n79AjHkgxNqfPb%2Fuploads%2Fzvy0uBxDmGtm9jBgWQRx%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=11b81063-6080-4fe9-bbf9-63c8312ba04b" alt="" data-size="line"> (or [drag and drop, or paste](/getting-started/browsing-files-on-jurisphere/uploading-files-and-folders.md#quick-upload-drag-drop-and-paste), your files directly onto the page) to add files to your Ask Juris conversation. Files added this way upload straight into your library and attach to the conversation automatically. Clicking **Attach** opens a the file viewer pane to either choose a file already in your library or upload a new one, including from connected cloud storage.

You can attach documents when you want Jurisphere to:

* Answer questions about a document.
* Review or analyse documents.
* Compare information across selected documents.
* Draft content using documents as context.
* Conduct research using the facts or material contained in your documents.

{% hint style="info" %}
Ensure to have the research switched on when you wish to conduct research after attaching a file.
{% endhint %}

For example, you may attach:

* An agreement and ask Jurisphere to identify risks.
* A set of pleadings and ask for a summary of the issues.
* A legal notice and correspondence and ask Jurisphere to draft a response.
* Case documents and ask Jurisphere to research legal issues arising from the matter.

The files you attach remain part of your Ask Juris chat unless you change or remove the document context.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Forgot to attach a file when the chat started?

You can either click the Attach button again or simply drag and drop the file onto the platform. Then type a follow-up question asking Jurisphere to include the new document in its response.
{% endhint %}

### Use voice transcription

You can also speak your instruction instead of typing it.

Select the **microphone icon** <img src="https://3330719282-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2zbn28n79AjHkgxNqfPb%2Fuploads%2FaTYT7gmRVtngscpa2001%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=67b8db5f-57b3-426a-8aa8-b200b56c30be" alt="" data-size="line"> in the Ask Juris prompt box and dictate your question or instruction.

<figure><img src="https://3330719282-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2zbn28n79AjHkgxNqfPb%2Fuploads%2F1EsrVDVSGR2hMdbf3Es1%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=3b99821c-7683-4b1a-b148-4d82dc90e327" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

After your speech is transcribed, review the text before submitting it. You can edit or add to the transcribed prompt if necessary.

## Quick access to other Jurisphere tools

Below the Ask Juris prompt box, you will see shortcuts to other Jurisphere tools.

These shortcuts help you move directly to a specialised tool when your task is better suited to a dedicated tool.

## Files carry over between Ask Juris and other tools

Files attached in Ask Juris can carry over when you open a tool using the shortcuts on the Ask Juris page.

For example:

1. Attach your case documents in Ask Juris.
2. Select **Prepare List of Dates**.
3. Continue working with those documents without uploading them again.

The same principle applies when moving from Ask Juris into other supported tools.

This allows you to begin by gathering your documents and deciding what you need to do, without having to upload the same files repeatedly.

# Agent Instructions
This documentation is published with GitBook. GitBook is the documentation platform designed so that both humans and AI agents can read, navigate, and reason over technical content effectively. Learn more at gitbook.com.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.jurisphere.ai/ask-juris/overview-of-ask-juris.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
